Short Term Impact of The Walt Disney Company
The Original Cast of Walt Disney World
After Walt Disney's death, the company still had to go on. The Love Bug was released in 1969, and became the highest grossing film of that year. Disney also started to make educational films and materials to start an educational subsidiary in 1969. Walt left behind some of his unfinished plans, such as the Walt Disney World theme park in Orlando, Flordia. Walt's brother, Roy, took over planning and managing of Walt Disney World and on October 1, 1971, Walt Disney World opened to the public. Not only did it include a theme park, but also hotels, shopping villages, golf courses, and campgrounds. Before long, Walt Disney World became the premier vacation destination in the world, and still is today.
Roy O. Disney, who co-founded and took over the company after his younger brother's death and finished Walt's dream of Walt Disney World, died on December 20, 1971. For the next decade, the Walt Disney Company would be managed by a team originally trained by the Disney brothers, including Card Walker, Donn Tatum and Ron Miller.
